He married Catherine STEIN, daughter of Conrath (Conrad) STEIN and ELIZABETH, in Aug 1792 in Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania, USA. She was born on 29 Sep 1769 in Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania, USA. She died on 10 Jan 1838 in Buried at New Tripoli, PA.

Notes for John Adam KRESSLY:  In 1824, he built a stone house in “Die Kressly Stadt” in Heidelberg. Baptized John Adam Kressley, he is listed as Adam Gresly who married Catharina Stein Aug. 1792, in the records from New Tripoli, Ebenezer Church. The records show they were married 45 years, had 3 sons, 4 daughters, 1 daughter who died of pneumonia.

Married to John Jacob Bachman for 15 years, who died 54 years ago. 3 children, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. Place of burial – Jerusalem.

He married (1) ESTHER (ELIZABETH) FOLLWEILER, daughter of Daniel FOLLWEILER and Maria Dorothea LEAZER, on 04 May 1828 in Lynn Twp., Northampton Co., PA Jacob’s Union Church. She was born on 02 Nov 1808 in Jacksonville, Lehigh Co., PA. She died on 15 Jul 1855 in Jacksonville, Lehigh Co., PA. He married (2) ANNA MARIA SCHMIDT on 05 Sep 1858. She was born on 04 Dec 1806. She died on 21 Jan 1875 in Buried at Jacksonville, PA.  Adam was a stone mason for over 40 years. He helped to build the third Ebenezer church in New Tripoli in 1824. He was a member of the Jacksonville church and served it officially. His farm was located at the eastern base of Donat’s Peak in the Jacksonville area. D. Stein had property in the area and was possibly a relative of Adam’s wife, Anna Maria. Reverend Fegley was Pastor at Jacob’s Union Church when he was buried.

Notes for Esther (Elizabeth) FOLLWEILER:  Daniel Folweiler, the 2nd son of the pioneer Bernhardt, was born in Lynn township, Oct 2, 1769 and died Feb 14, 1847. He married in Lynn township to Maria Dorothea Leaser, born May 15, 1769, died May 25, 1828. She was the d/o Frederick Leaser, who died in 1810. The latter hauled the Liberty Bel from Phila., to Allentown in 1777. Daniel settled on the Leaser homestead, near Wannamaker’s and died there and left these children:  Maria, born 1789, married John Folk Magdalena, 1792, married Heinrich Lutz Daniel, 1793, married Magdalena Stein John, married Susan Sittler
Elizabeth 1802, married Henry Creitz, David, born 1807, married Cath. Wannamaker,  Esther, born 1809, married Adam Kressley.

She died on 18 Mar 1889 in buried at Lowhill, PA.  Notes for Jacob KRESSLEY:  January 5, 1881: There is a newspaper article in the Indiana Pennsylvania Weekly Messenger: Jacob Kressley of Heidelberg township, Lehigh, has just died, aged 70 years. In the fall of 1878 Kressley struck Elias Lentz, a neighbor, over the head with a club, killing him. The blow was struck in the heat of a quarrel over a hog. The community was of the impression that Kressley did not intend to kill Lentz and he was acquitted.

• OBITUARY: Allentown Democrat, Allentown, pennsylvania, 18 July 1894: DEATH OF AN AGED LADY OF HEIDELBERG. Mrs. David Wehr, of near Pleasant Corner, Heidelberg tsp., died on the 1st inst., at an advanced age, at the residence of her son, Mr. Joel A. Wehr, of whose family she had long been a member. She had been in feeble condition for some time, and did not die from an organic disease, but rather from a wearing out of the system. Her earthly life closed in serenity and peace, having passed through it honored and loved by all knowing her. She was a good woman, and filled her allotted sphere as becomes a devoted wife and a christian mother. In her death a noble life has found a blissful transfer to the everlasting home, the rest of which had, under active and firm christian faith long been an abiding anticipation and assured reward. She combined, with the simplicity of a child, those sterling qualities of heart and mind which urge a mother to the conscientious discharge of her duty and the strict observance of all christian virtues. Pious and watchful she always by word and example instilled the truths of religion and sanctity into the minds of her children, and dutiful, thrifty and cheerful at her home, zealous in the practice of her religion, she left to her children, grandchildren and the third and fourth generations an example of life worth imitating. The funeral took place at the Heidelberg Church on the 5th inst.

Notes for David S. WEHR:  Davis S. Wehr, son of Michael, was born in 1821. He was a blacksmith near Pleasant Corner. He owned a farm of 113 acres, which was sold after his death to Joel A. Wehr, who in 1900, sold it to Alvin Peter. His wife was Polly Wehr, born in 1819 and died in 1894; a daughter of Philip Wehr, who settled in Michigan with the rest of the family. She was born in 1841. She died on 10 Jan 1899.  Notes for Daniel F. KRESSLEY:  Allentown Directory 1890, living in Jacksonville, occupation: carpenter. “The History of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania” states that Daniel operated a Planing mill at Jacksonville for many years, employing 14 men. He built many houses in Lynn and New Tripoli, Lynnport and Jacksonville. He was a Deacon, elder and trustee of the Lutheran congregation of Jacksonville Church.  Son of Adam Kressly and wife Esther Follweiler. Husband of Catharine Yaxtheimer. He was the postmaster at Jacksonville; his daughter Mantana succeeded him in the position. He was a deacon, elder and trustee for the Lutheran Congregation at Jacobs Union Church.

• OBITUARY: The Reading Eagle Newspaper carried his obituary, January 17, 1901, page 2. As follows: Jacksonville.  Death of Daniel Kressley: Daniel Kressley, postmaster of Jacksonville, died Wednesday afternoon at the age of 61 years. Funeral at St. Jacob’s Church. His wife died in January 1899. The following children survive: Elmer of Montana; Mary, at home; and Mrs. Oliver Creitz. The following sisters and brother survive: Mrs. John Schaeffer, Mrs. Everett, and Mrs. Samuel Koenig, and Charles Kressley of Jacksonville. Buried Jacob’s Union Church Cemetery.

i. MANTANA IRENE4 KRESSLEY was born on 23 Jul 1862 in Lynn Twp., Lehigh Co., PA. She died on 20 Dec 1924 in Jacksonville, Lynn Twp. Lehigh Co., PA.  Notes for Mantana Irene KRESSLEY:  Cause of death: cancer. “The History of Lehigh County, Pa” states that Mantana and her brother Elmer succeeded their father in the planing mill business in Jacksonville. She did not marry.

 

 

ii. GEORGE H. KRESSLEY was born in 1864. He died in 1878.

 

 

25. iii. ELMER MONROE KRESSLEY was born on 12 Sep 1868 in Jacksonville, Lehigh Co., PA. He died on 06 Feb 1937 in Jacksonville, Lehigh Co., PA. He married Claire Helena RUTTANE, daughter of Wilmot S. RUTTANE and ? WHITE, on 16 Jul 1901. She was born in 1869 in Bellville, Ontario Canada.

A complication of ills incident to her advanced ages caused her death. Mrs. Shoemaker, whose maiden name was Kressley, is survived by two sons and three daughters: James, Treichlers; Manoah, Allentown; Ida wife of James Kinnear, Tideoute; Louisa, wife of Alvin Bittner, Lowhill; and Anna, wife of Robert Hunt of town. One sister, Mrs. John Weiss, of New Tripoli; and two brothers, Daniel Kressley of town, and Benjamin Kressley, of Hamburg, also survive. The funeral will be

Kressley, of Slatington was born Feb. 3, 1846 in Heidelberg Township and educated in the public schools, after which he worked on a farm until 1864, when he enlisted in the Civil War and served as a teamster in the Quarter Master’s Depart. of the 9th Corps, Army of the Potomac, until l June, 1865, when he was honorably discharged at City Point, VA. He then returned home and learned the trade of brick layer and this he has followed until now. He moved to Slatington in 1868. Mr. Kressley served as supervisor of the borough for 15 years, also was constable for 16 years, and as a policeman for several years, and he has officiated as the collector of State and County taxes for nearly 20 years. He is a member of the I.O.O.F.; J.O.U.A.M. and the Knights of Malta, having passed through the chairs of the first two societies. In politics he has been a Republican from the time he came of age. In November 1866, Mr. Kressley married Mary Ann Snyder, a daughter of John C. and Susana (Bear) Snyder of Lynn Township (and a granddaughter of Christian Res of Heidelberg Township); and they have one child, Lewis O. (married to Lucetta Ziegenfuss), of Millport, Carbon County, and they had nine children: Mabel, Maud, Ella, Katie, Mary and Frederick; three others having died young”.

Will of Daniel Kressly admitted to Probate: By the will of Daniel Kressly, late of Centre Street, admitted to probate Monday in the office of Register Neimeyer, decedent directs that the executor of his estate pay his son Lewis O. Kressly the sum of $10.00 out of his estate and thereafter $5.00 per month so long as the son lives. The executor, Raymond E. Andrews (Andreas) has the privilege to reside in the homestead but the son Lewis O. Kressly is to have no say whatever in the estate, according to the Will. After the son’s death, the estate is to be divided among the grandchildren, Mabel, Frank (Fredrick), Ella, Kate and May (Maude) Kressly. Value of the estate is $8000.00 of which $3000.00 is in personal and the realty amounts to $5000.00 Witnesses to the Will executed August 13, 1921 (1928) were George H. Claus and Palmer A. Semmel.

[Evidently, Lewis and Daniel did not get along. among various family stories was an account that Lewis was an alcoholic.]

• OBITUARY: The Slatington News, Friday, Aug. 29, 1919. obituary Record of Mrs. Daniel F. Kressly: Mary Ann (nee Snyder) wife of ex-constable Daniel F. Kressly, an aged resident of town, died Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 at her home, #10 Centre Street, of a complication of diseases, aged 72 years and 9 months. She is survived by her husband, one son Lewis, of town, and two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Rabert, of town, and Mrs. Monroe Heintzelman, of Lynnport. Six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will take place from her late home on Monday at 9:30 a.m. and continued in St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church. Internment will be made in Union Cemetery Reverend S. Erb will officiate.

When his father died, the estate carried the business until Elmer took it over with 14 acres of land (originally part of the Daniel Follweiler homestead).  Elmer and Clare were members of the Jacksonville church congregation.

He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, joined that Society Feb. 6, 1904. His occupation was listed as farmer. Land records in Lincoln County Courthouse, Lincoln KS, Vol. X Pg 512: Thaddeus bought quarter SE4 from Bennett Wheeler in 1900 for $1400; land was sold to Helen Burger and Winnie Burger in 1929 for $8800; Winnie Burger sold it to John Mettlen.

He was farmer in the Fogelsville area for many years before retiring in 1972, and also a mechanic for the Lehigh Valley Dairy, 1952-67. Born in Fogelsville, he was a son of the late Alton and Alice (Frantz) Fister. He was a member of Ziegel United Church of Christ, Breinigsville R.2. Surviving are three sons, Vernon C. Fenstermaker of Allentown, and Carl L. Fenstermaker and Robert Fenstermaker, both of Fogelsville R.1; a brother, Alton T. of Stambaugh, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. Annabel Quigney of Allentown, Mrs. Loretta Ruch of Fogelsville and Erla, wife of Howard Lovett of Brevard, N.C.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. • OBITUARY: H. LaMarr Kressley, 91, of Hudson died Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Parkview Randallia Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born October 31, 1928, in Hudson to Henry Theodore and Dorothy V. (Rowe) Kressley. Mr. Kressley honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was the recipient of a Bronze Star Medal, a Korean Service Medal with three bronze battle stars, and a United Nations Medal. On June 3, 1955, in Garrett he married Dolly Esselburn. He retired from Dana Weatherhead in Angola after 38 years where he was an engineer. He also served as a reserve deputy sheriff for Steuben County. He was a member of the Hudson United Brethren Church, Garrett American Legion Post 178, and a life member of Angola VFW Post 7205. LaMarr enjoyed fishing and listening to blue grass music. Surviving are his wife of over 64 years, Dolly Kressley of Hudson; a daughter, Deborah C. (Steve Eberhard) Kressley of Mongo; and a son, Lynn LaMarr (Connie) Kressley of Cartersville, Georgia; four grandchildren, Julian Dove, Jessica N. (Jacob) Miller, Scott A. (Tracy) Kressley, and Todd LaMarr Kressley; and nine great-grandchildren, Isaiah Miller, Dawson Miller, Chance Miller, Julian Dove, Landon Dove, Ethan Dove, Dustin Kressley, Kayla Kressley, and Kirsten Kressley.
