Notes for HENRY KOONS/KUNTZ: First known as Heinrich, Jr. From Monocacy and Catoctin, Vol 3 – Ancestor Heinrich Kuntz probably was a Palatine German who embarked for America from the Netherlands. It may have been his son Henry (over 45 years in 1800 census) who had 6 sons, including John Coones in Buckeystown District in 1800; also Abraham, Henry, and George of age 26-45 years in Taneytown District in the 1800 census. George Koons (1753-1817) who married Susannah Stroyer (1760-1848) is buried at Taneytown Reformed Church. Their son Peter (1795-1876) and wife Mary Ann (Ott) (1803-1866) are buried at Haugh’s Church. They were parents of John Alfred Koons.

Henry Welty Koons is thought to have been born in the Netherlands while his father Heinrich and mother traveled toward America. No documents have proved where Heinrich originated from, but he was most likely a Palatine German en route with many others seeking refuge and freedom in the American Colonies.

Note that descendent Carroll H. Hendrickson Jr. pointed out that the will of Henry Koons (died 1821) gives his children as Abraham; Henry Jr.; Jacob; deceased John, George, and William; Eve; Catherine; deceased Ann and Mary. Henry Sr., his sons George and Jacob, also Jacob Jr. were blacksmiths. Paul and Anna (Koons) Haugh had son William (1774-1845) who married Catherine Kemp (1777-1824). Their son David (1804-1878) and wife Abalonia (1803-1885) had daughter Mary Catherine Haugh (1833-1909) who married Daniel R. Hendrickson (1826-1898) (Mt. Olivet), a great grandfather of Carroll H. H. Jr.

• OBITUARY: MARVIN O. WHITE. Marvin O. White, 62 of Beaverton, died Tuesday, Sept 15, 1998 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Saginaw after a long illness. Born May 12, 1936 in Saginaw, he lived in Gladwin County 11 years and previously lived in Shields. Marvin married the former Pauline Dawley, June 16, 1956 in Gladwin. He worked for McKay Press in Midland as a purchasing agent, retiring in 1997 after 30 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3292 in Gladwin; and a volunteer for the Thomas Township Fire Department in Saginaw. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Marvin Dean and wife Betsy of North Carolina, Jeffrey Joe and wife Dawn of Freeland, and Everett Jay of Beaverton; three brothers, Gerald, Larry and Dennis of Saginaw; one sister, Monagene Welzein of Burt; three granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel with Mark Sherfield officiating. Burial was in Butman Cemetery.
