Notes for Austin John Moeller Sr.: Austin and Emma are listed in the 1947 Saginaw Directory living at 514 Ortman St. He was a toolmaker at Lufkin Rule. He and Emma moved to 2900 Schemm St. in 1944. For a time they were proprietors of the Moeller Restaurant on State street near Bay in Saginaw. Austin died of a massive heart attack at his home in July 1956. He had heart problems and was on medication. When he collapsed, Emma was unable to get the cotton out of the container and blamed herself for years. This heart failure passed on to their son Austin, and his two sons Scott and Jon. All died of massive heart attacks.

Notes for Emma Kolberg: Emma was christened November 22, 1902 Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ilow. (FHL Film#1197856). She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church April 1, 1917 by Pastor Fred Harms. Emma came to America with her mother Alvina, brother Otto, and sisters Lydia and Augusta. She had no birth certificate. She was naturalized February 13, 1930 in Saginaw. 1920 Census shows Emma employed as an embroiderer at a garment factory. Emma started working in the beauty shop in 1958, retired in 1973. House at 2900 Schemm St. was built by her brother Albert. When he moved his family to Birch Run, Austin and Emma purchased the house. The newer house at 2904 Schemm St. was built in 1960.

She is survived by Charles, her husband of 60+ years; her brother, Gordon Hext, Jr. (Pat) of AK; son, Arthur (Lona) of Tucson, AZ; son, Timothy (Barbara) of Gold Canyon, AZ; five grandsons, Dean (Arwen), Jay, Scott, Benjamin and Robert Newman, all of AZ; nephew, John Hext, US Navy; niece, Jenny Marie Hext of AK. There will be a Memorial Service at Christ Church United Methodist, 655 N. Craycroft Rd., Tucson at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2003. In lieu of flowers there is a Memorial Fund for TMM Family Services, 3127 E. Adams St., Tucson, AZ.
OBITUARY: Published in the Arizona Daily Star on Nov. 17, 2013. Charles (Chuck) Newman Born November 22, 1920 in Saginaw, MI. Died September 12, 2013 in Lakeside, AZ. Chuck was a WWII veteran, serving as a medic, and was awarded two Bronze Stars. Upon his return to Michigan in 1945, he worked at a meat packing plant and Lufkin Rule Manufacturing Company. He and his wife, Emily and their two sons moved to Tucson in 1953 where he started work as an inspector at Hughes Aircraft. In his retirement after 30+ years at Hughes, he enjoyed building all sorts of things, including additions to his house in Tucson and his cabin in Show Low. As he grew older, his projects got smaller including picnic tables, stools, dog houses and bird feeders. He spent his summers at his cabin in Show Low with his first wife Emily, who preceded him in death in 2003. He married his second wife, Etta in Show Low in 2005. Etta passed away September 16, 2013. He was the last of his four siblings, and is remembered by his family as “Grand-Paa” or “Grandpa Chuck”. He is survived by his two sons, five grandsons and four great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be he held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Christ Church United Methodist, 655 N. Craycroft Rd., Tucson. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Tucson Metropolitan Ministries.

This family lived for a time in Sheridan Park, South Saginaw. Austin died of a massive heart attack at his home. He was a real estate agent at the time. He loved to play golf, smoke cigars and take pictures. He was a Major in the US Army before retiring from the service.

He received his Associate’s Degree at Delta College, his BS Degree at Ferris State College and received his MBA in industrial management at Saginaw Valley State University. Jon was employed in management at the American Sunroof Company for the past seven years. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Austin (Arlene C.) Moeller Jr., Saginaw; one brother and spouse, Scott J. and Verde Moeller, Clinton, La.; his grandmother, Mrs. Austin (Emma) Moeller Sr., Saginaw. He was predeceased by his father, Austin J. Moeller Jr. Funeral service will take place 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter off State. Rev. Asa Compton will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
