Notes for Carl Emil Nelson: Immigrated June 21, 1913 from Sweden to Port of Liverpool, England to New York City, New York on the ship Mauretania. Final destination – Seattle. Naturalization papers show him 6′ tall, brown hair, blue eyes, Documents dated and signed November 3, 1915. He was in the carriage building (later automobile) business 1920 census. He was a quiet man who loved his family, his independence and was quite stoic (the Swede in him). He was also a highly accomplished woodworker, and ran the North Star Glove Factory for many years.

Notes for Michaele Jo Nelson: Michaele was an Esprit des corp. ballerina for the San Francisco Ballet Co. She won a scholarship right out of High School (Tacoma WA). Later she worked in the Jewelry business. While in San Francisco she evidently did not communicate much with her three sisters or parents other than to tell them she injured her leg in 1963 – when she was pregnant and ended up giving her first son for adoption. In 1966 she gave up her second son for adoption. Non-identifying adoption papers gave enough information to track down her parents through their work and the father of her second son through her description. Michaela married Vincent Fassola and she was with him until she died of cancer. Her sisters say she had a huge personality, was an avid animal lover, and a wonderful, kind, funny gal.

His bio at California Ski Company: “Martin is our lead ski tech and specializes in hand finished race tunes. Martin moved to the United States in 1960 to distribute Henke boots. They were leather but had the mind blowing feature of buckles instead of laces! That same year Martin opened Swiss Ski Sports in San Francisco with his fellow countryman Heinz Herzog. Heinz left to become president of Raichle ski boots, while Martin continued with his successful career as a ski retailer. After closing the retail store in 2004 Martin came to work for California Ski Company as a master boot fitter. In addition to running the shop, Martin continues the ski racing career he had begun in Switzerland and still successfully races to this day. Martin was the masters overall far West Champion in 2005. Previously he had raced with many of the greats including Franz Klammer and many others. Martin held the record downhill time for the famous Parsenne downhill course in Davos Switzerland, and has been presented with a winners trophy by the prince of Monaco.

He had been married prior to coming to the U.S. but divorced after a short time. He dated Michaele Nelson for several months in 1965-66. In August, 1967 he married a second time Judith Pihl (had no children) who was still listed in the 1982 San Francisco telephone directory as VP of Swiss Ski Sports Co. after their divorce in August 1971. (He married a third time and has a daughter.)
